Making Your Own Vinegar
Vinegar making at home can be a rewarding hobby and you will appreciate the superb quality of the vinegar you make. The procedure for making vinegar can be applied to many choices of food products. Any fruit, grape, honey, sugar, molasses, even maple sap or syrup can be fermented to produce alcohol and then fermented again by acetobacter bacteria resulting in vinegar.
If you prefer not to get involved in the fermentation process you can still make high grade gourmet vinegars by using already fermented products such as grape or fruit wines and bottled beers. The process is simple and requires only minutes to get started. Once your vinegar vat (a one gallon glass jar) is activated it will produce vinegar for as long as you supply left over wine.

5 LITER OAK VINEGAR BARREL $89.95
These five liter barrels are used to produce and age vinegar to impart oak flavor and aroma.  They are hand made in America using American White Oak with no glue, nails or paraffin wax.  They are held together by only six black steel bands.  Vinegar barrels have a medium toasted interior preferred by winemakers.  Unlike wine barrels which lay on their sides these are designed to sit upright and have a large bong opening in the head with a draining spigot positioned in the side just above the bottom.  A cork bung stopper and wooden spigot and sanitizing tablet are included.  These barrels are both decorative and functional.
Mother of Vinegar $11.95
Acetobacter bacteria consumes alcohol from wine, cider or beer and produces the acid we call vinegar.  The bacteria in all of the cultures listed are the same. The difference between them is the liquid in which they are stored in.  If this is your first time making vinegar we recommend the Making Vinegar book offered below.
